Chinese-Canadian Soundscapes Project
Welcome! My name is Erica Dee Mah and I am a Chinese-Canadian singer-songwriter and guzheng player. For the past ten years I have been studying guzheng at the Crystal Guzheng Centre in Burnaby, BC. I now live in Whitehorse, Yukon, on the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. I am the only guzheng player in the Yukon, and find it deeply rewarding to continue learning and playing this beautiful traditional instrument.
With the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, I am working on a songwriting project to write contemporary songs on the guzheng. The goal of this project is to highlight spaces and places across the country that contribute to Chinese-Canadian sense of belonging.
Please take a moment to submit a description of a place that holds special meaning to you. Where is it located? What does it look like? What does it sound like? And most importantly, why does this place hold special meaning to you as a Chinese-Canadian?
Thank-you!
